Marko Matejić
MAIN architects
Born in Belgrade, in 1983 .
After graduation from XIII Belgrade Grammar School, in 2002 he entered the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Belgrade – majoring in forestry, where he completed two years of study, after which he started his academic studies at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade, in 2004.
He completed his undergraduate academic studies at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade in 2007, and during the final year of his studies he received a scholarship of the Fund for Young Talents of the Ministry of Sports and Youth of the Republic of Serbia.
At the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade, he graduated with a Master’s degree in 2009 under supervision of Professor Branislav Mitrović on the topic of “Reconstruction and extension of the Serbian Clinical Center in Belgrade”. During the Master’s academic studies in the period of 2007-2009, he collaborated in teaching Basic Academic Studies as a demonstrator (student volunteer) at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade, Department of Architectural and Urban Planning.
He started Doctoral academic studies at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade in 2009. . During his doctoral academic studies, he was a Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia scholarship holder in the period of 2011-2014, and as a researcher participated in scientific projects financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. Also, during the doctoral academic studies, in the period of 2010-2013, as a teaching associate, he taught at the Master’s academic studies at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade, the Department of Architecture under professor Branislav Mitrović and guest lecturer Miro Urošević, on elective courses, seminars, design workshops, studio projects and master projects in the field of planning and designing health facilities.
During his doctoral academic studies, he published scientific and professional papers in national and international scientific and professional magazines and publications and participated in international scientific conferences.
He prepared his doctoral dissertation application in 2015 under the mentorship of the then associate and now regular professor of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade, Dr. Marija Maruna, with the title “Strategic reconfiguration of architectural and urban patterns of acute hospitals in Serbia.” The application for the doctoral dissertation was approved by the Teaching and Scientific Council of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade. After that, he devoted himself to architectural practice and, unfortunately, gave up writing and the final defense of his doctoral dissertation for the time being.
He began to gain experience in architectural practice as a student, during the final year of his Master’s academic studies in 2009, and after completing his Master’s studies, he collaborated with Professor Branislav Mitrović and his MITarch team on several domestic and international architectural competitions, some of which won awards. During his doctoral academic studies, he gained experience in architectural practice through work on domestic and international architectural competitions in various domestic and international teams, as well as through cooperation with foreign architectural offices and work on projects abroad, primarily in the USA.
In the previous 15 years of architectural practice, the last 10 years he spent building his experience in leading positions in leading small teams of up to 20 people and managing different types and sizes of projects.
In September 2017, together with Nikola Ivković, he founded MAIN architects, which today consists of a team of between 10 to 15 architects and a developed network of external collaborators from various engineering professions.
He exhibited his completed and unfinished projects at domestic and international exhibitions and published them in domestic and international professional magazines and publications. At the Architecture Salon in Belgrade in 2018, he received a commendation in the interior category for a family house in Senjak.
He presented his projects and work in practice to the domestic and international professional public at numerous professional meetings where he participated as a lecturer.
In 2010, he was a member of the jury for the Architectural Student Contest organized by Saint-Gobain and a member of the expert committee for the evaluation of the most successful final works at the Basic Academic Studies at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade.
MAIN architects has been a member of ASAP since May 2022, and in the previous period Marko participated intensively in the work of ASAP through the work of numerous working groups and, among other things, was one of the speakers at ASAP INTRO #2: The price does(n’t) matter / Topic of the presentation: Resource planning and pricing in architectural practice in Serbia.
